Napal: Diary 4 – Zoo and Taxi

1

October 20: Today was a hell of an adventure.  We got up later than usual.  By that I mean like 7am or so.  Dad and I ate breakfast while my other two brothers slept in (8am or so).  We had to decide if you wanted to stay at this hotel another night or look for another.  We decided to stay.  It is pretty cheap.  A little noisy at night but worth it.  We booked a flight to see Mount Everest tomorrow.  We leave early around 5:45am. Back home this time would horrify me but here my body seems to not worry about it so much.  My mind tells me there is so much to see and to be honest we are getting at least eight to nine hours of sleep each night.  I can deal with that.

So the hotel wanted us to hire a drive for about $50.00 or so for the day.  We opted to take our chances and it worked out great.  We went to the zoo and saw some very odd animals.  The Bengal Tigers were very beautiful.  The 2 foot squirrell was weird!

We explored the southern part of the city.  I forget the name.  I do know that we sat on a temple that was at least 500+ years old.  It is very gratifying to know that so many other people have been at these places for so long.  Our taxi for the day (which we found on the street) was less than $7.00USD.  We found a lot of places to buy things.  Nepal people are not as pushy as they were in India.  They still want you to buy but no actually means no here.  I like that a lot.  The only hiccup of the day was on our return trip to the hotel.  Our drive had no idea where he was going.  Luckily we negotiated a flat fee and it worked out.  He stopped at one point and turned the car off and asked us to get out.  We refused because we were not at our hotel.  He FINALLY turned the car back on and took us to where we were supposed to be.  One of my brothers also went exploring by himself.  He got lost!  Luckily the people here are very nice and showed him how to get back.  Tomorrow we fly to see Mount Everest and I am really looking forward to that.  We have no itenerary after that.

Until tomorrow
